‘End Endo’ Bill Hurdles Interpellation; Passage on 2nd Reading In Sight, Says Villanueva

With the closing of the period of interpellation, the Security of Tenure bill (SBN 1826) is one step away from passing on second reading, according to Senator Joel Villanueva.
Villanueva, chair of the Senate Committee on Labor, Employment and Human Resources Development, defended the measure, more popularly known as the “End Endo” bill, on the floor last night as the session stretched past 9:00 PM on Wednesday.
“Nagagalak po tayo at nakatawid na ang ating panukala sa interpellation. We are optimistic that we will be able to pass this landmark legislation before the 17th Congress ends in June,” Villanueva said in a statement. “The bill goes into the period of amendments where we incorporate provisions that will make the measure a better piece of legislation.”
“We call on our fellow senators to pass the measure since it has been certified urgent by the President. More importantly, it will give affected workers the peace of mind that employees enjoy when they have a definite security of tenure in their employment contract,” he continued.
Once the measure passes second reading, the bill may also be voted on third and final reading subsequently, since it has been certified urgent by Malacanang.
