LIST: Who’s who in the incoming Duterte Cabinet

(4th UPDATE) Here is a list of people president-elect Rodrigo Duterte will appoint or will consider appointing in government

MANILA, Philippines (4th UPDATE) – With more than a month before he takes office, president-elect Rodrigo Duterte is starting to form his administration.

Here is a list of people that Duterte identified on Monday, May 16, as his future Cabinet secretaries:

  • Executive Secretary: Salvador Medialdea
  • Presidential Spokesperson: Salvador Panelo
  • Acting Foreign Affairs: Former Securities and Exchange Commission chief Perfecto Yasay Jr
  • Transportation and Communications: Arthur Tugade
  • Finance: Former agriculture secretary Carlos Dominguez
  • Education: Lyceum of the Philippines Batangas president Peter Laurel
  • Agriculture: Former North Cotabato governor Emmanuel “Manny” Piñol
  • Peace process: Jesus Dureza
  • PAGCOR: Former Bureau of Immigration chief Andrea Domingo

Also offered the position of either justice secretary or foreign secretary is Duterte’s defeated running mate, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano. However, he is banned from being appointed to an executive position for one year. Cayetano can choose which post he prefers after a year, Duterte said.

Former defense chief Gilbert Teodoro Jr, who arrived in Davao on Monday to meet with Duterte, confirmed he was offered the post of defense chief, adding he would consult with his family first before deciding. (READ: Gibo Teodoro: I will think about DND post offer)

According to Duterte, 4 departments are open to the Philippine Left: departments of labor and employment, social welfare and development, agrarian reform, and environment and natural resources.

On Sunday night, May 15, Duterte also named his top picks for the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, led by Chief Superintendent Ronaldo dela Rosa and Lieutenant General Ricardo Visaya. – Rappler.com
